Unplugged Weddings
Why You Should Consider Putting Down the Phones for Your Big Day
Your wedding day is one of the most special and important days of your life. It’s a day that you’ll cherish and remember forever, and that’s why it’s essential to ensure that every aspect of it is perfect.
One often overlooked detail that can make a significant impact on your wedding day experience is having an unplugged wedding. As wedding photographers, we’ve seen firsthand the benefits of having an unplugged wedding, and we can’t stress enough how important it is for creating beautiful and memorable photographs.
What is an unplugged wedding, you might ask?
It’s a ceremony or reception where guests are asked to refrain from using electronic devices, such as cell phones and tablets, during certain parts of the day. This includes the ceremony, the first dance, and other special moments throughout the day. By doing this, guests can fully immerse themselves in the moment, and the bride and groom can enjoy their special day without distractions.
So why is having an unplugged wedding so crucial?
Firstly, it allows for a much more intimate and emotional experience. When guests are not distracted by their phones or tablets, they can fully engage with the moment, and the emotions can flow naturally. This can lead to some beautiful, unscripted moments that we, as photographers, can capture and immortalize.
Secondly, it ensures that the photographs turn out to be stunning and picture-perfect. With guests putting down their phones, we, as wedding photographers, have the freedom to capture those special moments without obstructions or distractions. This includes the first kiss, the walk down the aisle, and the first dance, which are all moments that you’ll want to remember forever.
Thirdly, it allows your guests to enjoy the wedding without worrying about capturing the perfect picture. By putting away their phones, they can relax, enjoy the moment and the experience, and take in everything that’s happening around them.
So how do you go about having an unplugged wedding?
Firstly, you need to let your guests know that it’s an unplugged wedding. This can be done by adding a note to your wedding invitation, or by having a sign at the entrance of the ceremony or reception venue. You can also have your officiant or DJ make an announcement at the beginning of the ceremony or reception.
It’s important to remember that an unplugged wedding doesn’t mean that your guests won’t be able to take any pictures at all. After all, it’s a special day for everyone, and they’ll want to capture their own memories.

Instead, you can ask them to refrain from taking pictures during certain parts of the day, such as the ceremony or the first dance. You can also create a designated photo opportunity area where guests can take pictures to their heart’s content.
